There is one symbol that people all over the world – whether Christian or not – associate most with Jesus: The cross. It’s worn on jewelry, displayed on signs and depicted in artwork. The cross is central to our faith. But do we really know how Jesus’ death enabled our salvation? Spiritually speaking, what actually happened on the cross? The truth is, the New Testament writers themselves couldn’t quite agree. Many of us might not even realize that we are familiar with only one explanation of why Jesus had to die. Leading up to Easter, we'll walk through four theologies of atonement - as a way for all of us to more deeply understand the “why” of the cross.
